And then there were four. The men’s side of the NCAA Tournament has had its typical highs and lows, along with some shocks thrown in for good measure. Kansas, Villanova and Michigan are far from surprises, but Loyola-Chicago and its No. 1 fan, Sister Jean, have upset its way to San Antonio. Let’s take a look at how we got here to the Final Four. And, by the way, happy belated three year anniversary to this show!

Before we get into Episode 104, as a reminder, The Bridge is broadcast as a one-hour radio show Monday through Friday on Sports Radio America  at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. A brand new show airs on Wednesdays, then is released as a podcast on iTunes and on this website immediately following the episode. You can listen to the show live on Wednesday night on Sports Radio America here or through the TuneIn app. Additional bonus content, including a weekly gambling segment, can be found exclusively on this podcast.

  • “Sports News Read Like Real News” told the tale of Marvin Bagley’s passion off the court — rap (2:13).
  • The Bridge Question of the Week is: Who will win the college hoops national championship, and why? Leave a voicemail or text in your answer to 929-BRIDGE7, that’s 929-274-3437, and you’ll make it on the next show.
  • This week’s guest is Al Renauto, who some of you sports radio listeners in the Northeast might know better as Al from White Plains. Al is an attorney by day and an avid sports fan by night, and someone I’ve always enjoyed hearing from on sports talk radio shows, from close to two decades of calls into Mike and the Mad Dog to now throughout the lineup on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio. He’s sharp, he’s opinionated, he’s knowledgable and is someone who can talk about sports for hours on end, which will help when we team up for a sports talk show on Monday nights soon enough. We’ll chat about Virginia losing as the first No. 1 to a 16, other disappointing exits from teams, how far is too far for Cinderellas and which team of the Final Four will win the tournament.
  • The interview starts at the 9:10 mark.

– In the interview, we discuss:

Thoughts on this year’s tournament (9:39), Virginia breaks the seal as the first No. 1 seed to fall to a 16-seed (13:58), will Virginia’s historic loss effect Tony Bennett’s legacy as their coach (18:59), the solid showing from Syracuse and Kansas using its game against Duke to its advantage (23:29), other surprise teams that did not make the Final Four (28:49), the disappointment of CBS for not having Kentucky advance to help its ratings (34:05), if he’ll miss Grayson Allen at Duke (34:58), why Michigan can’t get no respect (38:34), how Sister Jean’s popularity has helped Loyola Chicago (40:06) and who wins the national championship (45:24).

  • “Five Minutes in the Film Room” with Joe Baress, former star of the prestigious John and Joe Sports Show, dishes out his favorite films from 2017 (49:52). You can follow Joe on Twitter @dukemich and read his movie reviews, previews and ratings at cupof-joe.com.
