Erik Blomain, friend of the show and diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan, joins the show to discuss Philly’s path to the Super Bowl, winning it all and continuing to celebrate [Ep. 101]

Carson Wentz and Erik Blomain

The Philadelphia Eagles are finally Super Bowl champions, slaying the beast that is Brady, Belichick and the New England Patriots to win the Lombardi trophy for the first time. Believe it or not, this show is centered around the Birds.

Before we get into Episode 101, as a reminder, The Bridge is broadcast as a one-hour radio show Monday through Friday on Sports Radio America  at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. A brand new show airs on Wednesdays, then is released as a podcast on iTunes and on this website immediately following the episode. You can listen to the show live on Wednesday night on Sports Radio America here or through the TuneIn app. Additional bonus content, including a weekly gambling segment, can be found exclusively on this podcast.

  • “Sports News Read Like Real News” throwback to around this time last year when we told the tale of New York Knicks owner James Dolan’s attempt to take down Knicks legend Charles Oakley (2:18).
  • The Bridge Question of the Week is: Who would be your sports Valentine this year, and why? Leave a voicemail or text in your answer to 929-BRIDGE7, that’s 929-274-3437, and you’ll make it on the next show.
  •  “The What??” — Highlighting some of the best soundbites and quotes from the latest week in sports. We’ve got a flashback to what Tom Brady said about the Madden Curse and pay homage to Eagles center Jason Kelce’s parade speech (8:20).
  • This week’s guest is Erik Blomain, a friend of the show, my fantasy football league commissioner and a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan for three decades. There were several possible avenues to take for this week’s guest, but after celebrating 100 episodes last week, I thought it would be fun to go back to the roots of the show. Before there were titans in the sports media world and former players and such, when I instead chatted solo or with friends to fill up the time of the show. Erik first joined The Bridge all the way back in 2015 for Episode 16, and when I decided the Eagles deserved a hat tip on the show, it was an easy decision to bring him back. We’ll talk about when the ball started rolling to make up this current team, keeping the faith after Carson Wentz got hurt, the atmosphere for the Divisional Playoff game at the Linc, the Super Bowl game and win, celebrating at the parade and more.
  • The interview starts at the 17:54 mark.

– In the interview, we discuss:

How far things have come since Doug Pederson was hired as head coach (19:16), life after Carson Wentz (23:09), wearing a Nick Foles Pro Bowl jersey for the playoff run (26:35), the atmosphere at Lincoln Financial Field for the playoff run (27:26), how the city of Philadelphia prepared for the Super Bowl (29:23), the Philly fan mind set heading into halftime (31:34), if there was a feeling that the Pats would make another comeback (34:23), the feelings after the game was over (36:36), what the championship means to the Eagles fan (39:02), the scene in Philadelphia for the parade (41:41), some tales from meeting some players (45:50) and can this team do this again (48:51).

  • “Five Minutes in the Film Room” with Joe Baress, former star of the prestigious John and Joe Sports Show, breaks down “Get Out,” which Rotten Tomatoes describes as: Now that Chris and his girlfriend, Rose, have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined (53:54). You can follow Joe on Twitter @dukemich and read his movie reviews, previews and ratings at cupof-joe.com.
